Television Technical Operators College _ Freelancers Courses AUSTRALIA
intensive short courses and workshops.
Technology is changing at a rapid pace and so it is crucial that freelancers become multi-skilled and continue to update their technical skills. Those with the right skills will find their job horizons enhanced as they become part of a highly sought after pool of professionals.
To assist, we have developed Freelancer Short Courses in conjunction with the University of Western Sydney (UWS) and television industry partners. These courses are practical and are based on industry requirements. They include the following;
- Up-skilling courses
- Vendor accredited speciality equipment courses
- General training courses.
As a further incentive, the College will fund all freelance training for the first three years for those with the appropriate industry experience and qualifications.
If you are a freelancer in the television industry, you are invited to register for free membership with the College for the first year.
Freelancers can also use our Skills Management service, to increase their employment opportunities in the television industry.

AV Magazine
But AV isn't only a magazine: at www.av.net.au we're building a website that will extend beyond what you read in the magazine to include industry discussion and news forums that will keep you current and connected with what's happening in the world of AV.
As a service to the AV industry, the www.av.net.au web site will feature a FREE ONLINE EMPLOYMENT NOTICEBOARD — this is a great way of plugging into the AV community, and much cheaper than a RSVP membership.
Although the site is still being built, we are able to take job ads now, in preparation for the launch of the site by the weekend.
To post a job ad, download our standard Position Vacant spreadsheet from www.av.net.au/downloads/vacancy.xls, fill in the details, then send it to employment@av.net.au:.
We look forward to meeting you on the AV Forums and hearing from you about the industry and the new magazine.

Latest Shure Podcasts on iTunes
NILES, IL, July 14, 2008 – Shure Incorporated has posted several new educational podcasts, called Shurecasts, on the Company’s website and on iTunes that cover the basics of wired and wireless microphones. Topics include “Transducers,” “Frequency Response” and “Directionality” for wired microphones, and “Choosing the Right System,” “Frequency Selection,“ and “Antennas” for wireless microphones.
“These are just a handful in a series of podcasts we’ve already created and are continuing to produce as part of our overall education program,” said Chris Lyons, Manager of Technical and Educational Communications for Shure. “For years, we’ve had an extensive library of educational booklets and articles available on our website, which have been very popular. The nice thing about our podcasts is their portability because they can be played on any digital music player or computer.”
Other Shurecasts that are currently available cover a variety of audio topics, including Sound Isolating Earphones, Stereo Miking Techniques, the SM57 and SM58® microphones, and White Spaces. Each episode includes a brief introduction to a particular segment of audio technology, such as microphones or earphones, and audible demonstrations.
Additional Shurecasts will be released on a regular basis, approximately one per month, and some episodes will include interviews with artists and engineers.
Shure is inviting questions about the current and previous Shurecasts as well as suggestions for topics, which can be submitted by sending an e-mail to shurecast@shure.com.
